ABOUT

The “Blobber” Game is a free, downloadable, cooperative board game created by educator Kesa Kivel in response to her dislike of games focused on winning and losing, her wish to foster togetherness, and her desire to spread joy!

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Blobber Game is for families to enjoy screen-free, creative time together during the coronavirus quarantine, and beyond. This is a new, fun activity for kids age 6+, teens, and adults, where everybody wins! The Blobber Game engages the imagination and promotes happiness—this game will surprise and delight!

GAME PLAY

Players respond to requests on Blobber cards either by performing simple physical movements (improv-like), or by answering lighthearted questions in order to advance on the game board from “start” to the end of the road.

The story of the character, Blobber, is introduced in the first card and continues as more cards are drawn and the game is played. (If you end the game before the story is concluded, find and read the remaining story cards out loud; the story  cards will be about every fourth card).

TIME REQUIRED: 45+ minutes | AGES: 6 and up | PLAYERS: 2-4

INSTRUCTIONS

How to Download and Assemble

Step One

Go to the Request Game page and complete the form. You will receive a link via email to a website page where you can download all the game materials except for dice and something to use as game markers such as 1/2” x 1 3/4” sticky notes/pens on which players can write their names, small shells, or game markers from other games.

Step Two

Once you have downloaded the 4 game panels, print each one on a separate 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper. Next, arrange the 4 printed game panel pieces according to the placement directions on the corner of each panel: “Upper Left,” “Upper Right,” “Lower Left,” or “Lower Right.” Tape the panels together to form the game “board.”

Download the Blobber cards, which come 4 to a page, and cut them using the “cut” lines to guide you. See examples, above.

TESTIMONIALS

It is wonderful to participate in a cooperative game where the focus is on having fun, rather than trying to win or make others lose! We had tremendous fun playing as a family and bonded more!

-Farzana, parent

Doing this game with my son, we played, moved around + got silly and creative together in ways we’ve never done. This game created a way to connect playfully that’s really sweet + precious.

-Cathy, parent

A note from the game developer:

As we are all going through unprecedented times with the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m excited to share with you this free, interactive activity for homebound kids. The Blobber Game is one of the things you can do during this time to help make parenting fun, and uplifting, too!
